This let you back them up and sync them with the diary from your desktop - typically this meant Outlook Express - using a serial or USB cable.įortunately, you can still do this, thanks to connectivity software such as CompanionLink. Back then, phones came with PC connectivity software such as Nokia PC Sync or Microsoft ActiveSync. Of course, this wasn’t the case in the old days before GMail and the iPhone. For some of us that is fine, but for others, legal and regulatory compliance concerns will make it a no-no. More importantly, all these platforms are now cloud-based and expect you to sync your mobile devices with a data store nebulously located somewhere out on the Internet, governed by who-knows-what privacy regulations. Recently they released a new version of both CompanionLink ( V5) and DejaOffice ( V2.2) with more capabilities and features. You then define what database ( Outlook, ATC!, etc.) and what fields ( contacts, calendar, etc.) you want to sync. It works because you install CompanionLink on your PC or Mac and install DejaOffice on your Android, iPhone / iPad, Blackberry, etc. I wrote an article a while back about syncing Outlook with my Android phone using CompanionLink on my PC and DejaOffice on my Android. ![]() I found I can do all of this quite easily with CompanionLink. And being in the computer repair industry, I need to keep all of my data ( contacts, calendar, etc.) synchronized and up to date on both my PC and smartphone. Like a lot of people, I use Microsoft Outlook as a PIM ( Personal Information Manager).
